Welcome to sust-it's first e-news where we highlight the efficient and the not so!

With over 1200 products in our energy efficiency database, you can really see how easy it is to save money and reduce your CO2 emissions simply by choosing energy efficient goods.

Is your old TV playing up - or taking up too much space? Are you thinking of upgrading to a flat screen LCD? Why not check out the best performers on our site before you buy? Our current top ranking 32” LCD TV is the Panasonic TX32LXD7 and the worst is the Samsung LE32M61B which could cost you an extra £62.50 per year to run.

In the tumble dryer shootout the John Lewis branded JLTDC01 Energy Condenser Sensor dryer is now tops. This machine is leading the others by a country mile and even with its 6kg drum, so you can dry all the families washing on those rainy days!

Standby figures have been added to the site (when we can find the published data) and the good news is that newer models seem to be getting more efficient. The bad news is why do we need standby? You could try the 'Bye Bye Standby', which we will be reviewing shortly.

The Digital TV switchover will start happening in Whitehaven, Cumbria, in October 2007 with the whole country going digital by 2012. It's estimated that there could be over 80 million set-top boxes in the UK by 2010. Let's hope the TVonics Energy Saving Set Top Box is a big seller, otherwise Whitehaven's neighbour, Sellafield, may need to expand!

The lemon of the season has to be the Panasonic 103" HD Plasma Display which has a published power consumption of 1500 watts. That's like having an electric fire going in your front room. Lovely on a summers' day!
